Mutt Motorcycles x The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

It's that time of year again!! The annual Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, in support of prostate cancer research and men's mental health is upon us!

We hold DGR close to our hearts, we all know someone who has been, is going to or will go through mental health issues and want to do more. Being based in the birthplace of the Gentlemans Ride, we at Mutt Motorcycles Australia feel a responsibility to make a top effort. Last year we had a big party; between the hog roast, the riding and the after-party we made our share of noise...

Last year
We left from our old home in Mona Vale, riding together to join the main Sydney ride with 'the committee", a handsomely clad bunch of ladies and gents out in force to show support and raise much needed funds for Movember and the ever growing Distinguished Gentleman's movement. The early caffeine fueled ride was cold, but warmed with a sense of camaraderie none of us felt it as we pounded the streets toward Bondi to meet the 800+ other crusaders for the cause. The gorgeous morning ride into the city was spiced by the smell of salty air as it warmed. We arrived feeling refreshed and eager to join in the festivities on the beachfront.

Check out the video.

The ride itself did not disappoint, with all sorts of characters on all kinds of retro steeds including a great turnout of Mutt riders. The atmosphere was family friendly fun while everyone attending had a stern awareness of why we were there. As ever, the route was held a tight secret until the last minute but was so well organised that there was no need to worry about where you were going, just enjoy riding together, waving at bewildered onlookers who were certain to now either be utterly confused or thankfully aware of the cause. The highlight of the Sydney ride is when you lift your head and see the harbour bridge in front of you with every lane plastered with nothing but bikes. Riding across one of the most beautiful, iconic and recognisable landmarks in the world alongside comrades, friends and other riders is an experience for any rational person's bucket list.

The finale and gathering in the entertainment quarter was great fun, lots of great yarns, good laughs and even more funds pouring into the coffers of the Movember foundation, for some, this is the one day a year that they see each other and the whole area was buzzing with excitement, catching up with old friends while checking out the spectacular array of vintage style bikes that had made it onto the ride.

Once we had refreshed ourselves we set back off in smaller groups to Mutt Australia HQ for live music, and juicy hog roast and  a few beers. Mark'd barbers of Seaforth offered a charity pop up shop and we held a charity auction, both efforts earning some hard cash for The Movember Foundation.

This year
The ride is on Sunday the 27th of September, though things are a little different...

At this year's Distinguished Gentleman's ride we will be making a more subtle, but just as gentry appearance. The shape of the ride this year has changed but the cause remains the same and it is more prudent than ever before to do our bit to raise awareness and funds as suicides rise and the mental health of our men is under more pressure in the face of a global pandemic, lockdowns and financial difficulties that are sweeping the globe.

This year's lower key event has even more urgency in the support of mental health. The concentration of the need for support and the relatively hindered ability to provide it is a disaster for the mental health of men around the world with many not knowing where to turn in such hard times.

In order to comply with local social distancing restrictions, Mutt Motorcycles Australia will be hosting an exclusive, planned shop ride through Sydney with food and beverages back at HQ post-ride and an abundance of good times! If you are a Mutt owner, you can bid for one of 15 tickets to come along and be a part of the fun. If you are not lucky enough to own a Mutt yet then we also have one Golden Ticket available which includes the rental of a Mutt for the day! All proceeds go to The Movember Foundation.
